Exercise Classes


University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center offers a variety of exercise classes to help improve your health no matter what your fitness level is. Join us for a fun way to work out and relieve stress.

Class descriptions are provided below. Click here to register for your class today. Pre-registration is required as class sizes are limited. The cost is $50 per 10 week session, due at time of registration. We offer classes at multiple locations for your convenience.

Beginning Pilates

Pilates provides improved flexibility, coordination and stamina by focusing on strengthening the abdominal core. Participants are asked to wear loose, comfortable clothing and to bring their own yoga mat. Prior Pilates experience is not required and all ability levels are welcome.

Beginning Tai Chi

This physical art form from China is characterized by slow and soft movements. It is the perfect physical activity for relaxation, gentle joint manipulation, balance improvement and stress reduction. Please wear comfortable clothing and a Ked style sneaker.

Beginning Yoga

Yoga provides improved flexibility, strength, coordination and concentration by providing a means of reducing stress and relaxing the body and mind. Participants are asked to wear loose, comfortable clothing and to bring their own yoga mat. Prior yoga experience is not required.

Beginning Yoga/Meditation

Yoga provides improved flexibility, strength, coordination and concentration by providing a means of reducing stress and relaxing the body. Meditation helps to still the mind, focusing away from the everyday concerns and helping to listen inward. Participants are asked to wear loose, comfortable clothing and to bring their own yoga mat. Prior yoga experience is not required.

Beginning Yoga/Pilates

This class combines yoga and Pilates to provide improved flexibility, strengthening of the abdominal core, coordination and concentration by providing a means of reducing stress and relaxing the body and mind. Participants are asked to wear loose, comfortable clothing and to bring their own yoga mat. Prior experience is not required.

Fitness Fusion

This fun, high-energy class incorporates yoga, boxing, dancing, Pilates, weight training and meditation for a full-body workout. Participants are encouraged to bring light hand and ankle weights and a yoga mat. All levels are welcome, but current participation in regular exercise is encouraged.

Floor, Core and More

This class is designed to strengthen abs, lower back and glutes and is done mainly on the floor to reduce impact on the joints. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and are encouraged to bring light hand and ankle weights and a yoga mat. No previous experience necessary.

Gentle Yoga

This class presents yoga at a slower, more relaxed rate than traditional yoga. With more stretching and limited “up and down” exercises, Gentle Yoga is perfect for those who want to practice yoga at an easy pace.

Pilates

Pilates provides improved flexibility, coordination and stamina by focusing on strengthening the abdominal core. Participants are asked to wear loose, comfortable clothing and to bring their own yoga mat. Prior Pilates experience is recommended.

Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal yoga is specifically designed for the journey of pregnancy. Conducted in a calm, peaceful environment, yoga helps strengthen pelvic muscles, improve circulation, aid in digestion, exercise the spine and increase overall comfort. All trimesters welcome. Physician consent required.

Yoga

Yoga provides improved flexibility, strength, coordination and concentration by providing a means of reducing stress and relaxing the body and mind. Participants are asked to wear loose, comfortable clothing and to bring their own yoga mat. Previous yoga experience is strongly recommended.

Yoga for Healthy Back and Core

This class offers gentle back stretching and simple core strengthening exercises. Learn proper body mechanics and relaxation techniques to release tension and stress.

Yoga for Stroke Patients

Yoga has been shown to increase strength and flexibility, improve core strength, balance, coordination, and posture, improve breathing and the cardiovascular system, increase bone strength, improve brain function, decrease stress, and lower blood pressure - all beneficial to continued recovery for stroke survivors. This class is recommended for any stroke survivor who has completed rehabilitation, regardless of level of ability. Physician consent is required and participants are asked to bring their own yoga mat.
